Jambo!  That means "hello" in Swahili :O)  ....So, speaking of Africa, today we analyzed a current event that is happening in our world today -- there is a new country forming in Africa called "South Sudan."  See below how we related this story to what we've learned these last 2 weeks...

So, first we reviewed our lesson on Peter the Great of Russia.  Click the slide below to see what answers you may come up with... Remember your "process of elimination!!!"

(Answers at bottom of this blog entry)

Good job!  So, then we moved on to our lesson.  See if you can answer the questions in the 2 slides below!

(Answers at bottom of this blog entry)

After that we learned about the newest country in Africa (country #55), called "South Sudan."  Click on the slides & videos below to see why they are splitting up:

Some slides showing more info on them:

Before you watch the videos, think of these questions to guide your viewing:

   - What problems do they face in the new South Sudan?
   - Do you think they have their "priorities straight" there?
   - What "positive" things can you find that may work in their favor?

Great!  ASSIGNMENT:  Now, imagine you are traveling to South Sudan and you will be able to give the new president some advice on how to run his new country.  It will be a tough job!  They have a lot of problems.

Also, realize that you will have to "back up" your recommendations with historical facts, because otherwise, he won't believe that your ideas will work!  You must use your knowledge of the 4 Absolute Rulers we learned about (Kangxi, Tokugawa, Louis XIV, & Peter the Great).   Click on the slides below to find the instructions.
