TUESDAY - APRIL 13, 2010

     Hey guys!  Today we further answered the Essential Question:  "How did imperialism in Europe, Africa, and Asia affect the world?" 

     To do this, we defined the following terms:

   1)  Imperialism - When a stronger nation takes over a weaker nation for their benefit.

   2)  Darwinism - "Survival of the fittest" (Charles Darwin's theory of evolution)

   3)  Social Darwinism - "Survival of the Richest" ...an idea used to justify imperialism.


     After discussing these terms, we looked at some pictures in the textbook to explain the process of imperialism and its results.  By looking at these images (and reading their captions), we will get an idea of what imperialism was all about and ALSO get in some practice for Gateway.  REMEMBER!... Gateway requires you to be able to "make sense of" documents.  Looking at these images will get you used to analyzing documents for Gateway.  See you tomorrow :)
