THURSDAY - January 6, 2011

  
   Hola!  So, today we did the following:

     1)  Reviewed Columbian Exchange
 
        - To do this, we discussed a few things from yesterday and then
          we sampled Aztec "xocolatl" (pre-Columbus chocolate, cacao +
          chilies + cinammon) and then tried the "regular chocolate,"
          which came after the "Columbian Exchange" when sugar and
          milk were added!

    2)  Learned how the Columbian Exchange led to
         "TRIANGULAR TRADE"
     
        - First, we watched a clip from the movie Amistad (click
          here) and discussed the African slave trade.          


        - Second, we drew a model of Triangular Trade on the board
          using AFRICA, EUROPE, and the AMERICAS.  See the pic
          below (or click here for a video) to see how Triangular Trade
          worked.            *Also, think to yourself... who is responsible for the
          trade of African slaves and the suffering of so many people? 
          Also think... what was the "goal" that drove people to do
          these things?  Was it racism?...or something else?
